my process

I'll usually start out with a simple sketch

Then I'll throw some color behind the sketch layer to get a feel for where I want everything to go.

After that, I'll start defining everything, adding depth.

Kinda forgot to save one of the steps there, so it's a big jump on the side with the trees.  I decided not to go with the flowers.

 Yeah foliage...

Bringing life to the trees.

The darker I went with the trees, the more I realized I needed to go darker on the opposite side.  So, I went with a darker gray and also worked on the grass.

The rocks were probably my favorite part in this picture.  Not having a picture as a reference really forced me to be creative on this part.

Adding a little more detail...

Starting to get a feel for what I'm doing now, so I started adding texture...

More texture...

Added the finishing touches to the rocks and started on the fence (the fence was done on a different layer on top of the main layer).

Put the finishing touches on the fence and started to add the lava erupting, dripping, and the flow underneath.

Lava is cool.  I started to make the trees a little darker, trying to get a feeling of depth in the picture.

More details...

Added our cowardly fellow walking the fence, brightened up the trees a little bit, and abra kadabra "Indecision" is complete.  :-)

Some people have showed interest in seeing how I do what I do.  So, this is a kind of a "play by play" to show everyone my process.  I'm sure there is a better way, so this is not a tutorial, just a little insight in how my projects come about.
